Broiled Grapefruit with Spices and Honey

Broiled Grapefruit with Spices and Honey

Serves 2

1 grapefruit, I like the Ruby Red variety

Sesame oil

Freshly ground black pepper

Cinnamon

Honey

Move the rack in your oven to 4 inches away from the broiler and preheat the broiler on high.

Halve the grapefruits through their equators. Using a paring knife or a grapefruit knife, cut the sections away from the membranes and pith so they are easy to spoon up. Place grapefruit halves, cut-side up, on a baking sheet. Drizzle a little sesame oil over the tops of the grapefruit and massage the tops to make sure they are lightly coated. This prevents them from burning and allows the spices to bloom a little better. Sprinkle a little black pepper and cinnamon on the tops to your taste.

Broil for 2-5 minutes until the tops begin to brown lightly. Broilers vary A LOT so please watch your grapefruit carefully so they do not burn.

When your grapefruits are done cooking, remove from the oven and transfer to individual serving bowls. Drizzle with honey and enjoy!
